Alleged Stalker Asked: 'But Suppose I Could Be Madeleine?'
A woman charged with stalking Kate McCann allegedly recorded her a voicemail message which posed: "suppose I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, 24, who a jury heard has persistently claimed she was the disappeared Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are standing trial accused with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February this year.
On Monday, the court was told phone records and evidence obtained from phones documented Ms Wandelt repeatedly requesting Madeleine's mother for a biological test during that period.
Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - when she was three years old during a family holiday in Portugal - is among the most publicized investigations and continues to be unresolved.
'I Am Not Seeking Money'
Another recorded message, presented in court, documented Ms Wandelt stating: "I know I'm fat and not pretty like Madeleine had been, but I feel what I believe."
While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's answerphone expressed: "Imagine there is a slight possibility that I'm her? What happens next? Is that not crucial for you?"
"I do not need money, I maintain a existence here in Poland, I only wish to discover," she added.
The tribunal was told that by means of electronic messages, text messages and communications, Ms Wandelt requested a biological test, transmitted youth pictures to her phone in a bid to show a similarity to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and stated to have "flashbacks" from a youth with the McCanns.
An intelligence analyst, an intelligence analyst with law enforcement who compiled the evidence, advised the court there "didn't appear to be any responses" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt additionally contacted acquaintances of the McCanns, according to the call data.
On October 9th, 2024, the father picked up a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "a wrong number."
On that occasion Ms Wandelt deposited a voicemail on Mrs McCann's voicemail saying "I will continue and I plan to establish my claim."
The court learned the co-defendant developed a connection online with Ms Wandelt before accompanying her on a trip to the McCanns' home in Leicestershire in last December.
Communication data showed Mrs Spragg had reached out via WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to state the press had depicted Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she should be treated respectfully in the time before the appearance to Rothley, that area, in December 2024.
The court learned message exchanges between the two individuals, in last November, considering attempting to get Mrs McCann's genetic material from her trash or from silverware at a restaurant.
"We must make a stand," Mrs Spragg told Ms Wandelt.
On the evening of the trip to their home, Mrs Spragg sent a text which expressed: "We're currently positioned outside the McCanns' residence with our headlights off like detectives. I desired to achieve this with another person I didn't imagine I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."
